Night in Abiquiú

Why we dim the paths and let the sky do the work.

Abiquiú sits under some of the darkest sky in the inhabited West. We keep path lights low and warm, and we turn the terrace lamps off after dinner if you ask. On a clear night the Milky Way is not a metaphor. It is a weather system of light.

There is a blanket bench outside Casa Norte and another on the west terrace of The Plunge. In winter we leave extra wool. In summer the stone still holds the day.

We do not run a telescope program. If you travel with one, the courtyard is yours. If you do not, lying on your back is enough. The hotel is small so that the dark can stay large.
